Child & Youth Mental Health

The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Neurosciences, in conjunction with the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, offers robust, evidence informed subspecialty training opportunities in child and adolescent psychiatry.

McMaster Children’s Hospital (MCH) is one of the principal pediatric academic health science centres in Canada with approximately 180,000 visits per year.

It is home to Child & Youth Mental Health Program, which includes:

  • A 24-bed inpatient unit
  • Outpatient psychiatry consultation and assessment services
  • Emergency psychiatric services
  • Community workshops and groups
  • Individual, family and group Treatment
  • Psychological testing and consultation services
  • Day Hospital Services.

The McMaster Child Health Research Institute (MCHRI) led by McMaster Children’s Hospital and McMaster University, Faculty of Health Sciences, in conjunction with many key research partners is also a significant contributor to the knowledge base supporting clinical services.

McMaster is also home to the Offord Centre for Child Studies where research is dedicated to improving the quality of life and life opportunities for the one in five Canadian children and youth who suffer from serious social and emotional problems within our community.
