The focus of the division is to support people with schizophrenia spectrum disorders to regain and manage their health and live hopeful, meaningful lives through the provision of compassionate, innovative, specialized mental health and addiction services in keeping with health quality standards, with embedded clinical training and research opportunities. Research includes studies aimed at improving early identification and treatment of psychotic disorders in transitional-aged youth through clinical research and the multimodal neuroimaging approaches of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG), studies elucidating the cognitive, neurobiological and social cognitive mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and related disorders and studies aimed at improving functional outcomes and enhancing recovery.
The Schizophrenia Division is based at the West 5th Campus, St. Joseph’s Healthcare, Hamilton within the Schizophrenia and Community Integration Service (SCIS), the largest of the Mental Health and Addictions Programs.
