Psychiatry and Medicine/CL

Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Consultation-Liaison (C/L) Psychiatry focuses upon the clinical and academic integration of psychiatry across medical and surgical services. There is an emphasis upon the development of collaborative partnerships between psychiatry and other medical and surgical disciplines to improve our understanding and care of patients with co-existing medical and psychiatric illness. It places a priority upon applying advances in the medical and neurological sciences to our understanding of the etiology, nature, and treatment of psychiatric disorders.

The division is involved in (1) providing clinical psychiatric consultation to all medical and surgical inpatients, with active support for teaching and research in these areas and (2) focused, academic, collaborative partnerships in key out-patient areas where there is the greatest potential, at this time, for integrative research.

Initiatives

(1) Support for the Department’s strategic initiative to integrate psychiatry across medicine and healthcare

(2) Development of focused academic and clinical collaborations with other medical disciplines (GI Psychiatry clinic, neuropsychiatry clinic, psycho-oncology).

(3) Support for research, knowledge generation and knowledge translation in all integrated psychiatry and medicine activities.

(4) Innovation in education in C/L psychiatry
