Jabel Okyere is a Registered Social Worker and Assistant Clinical Professor (Adjunct) at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, McMaster University. He completed his Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from McMaster University and obtained his Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Toronto. Jabel is a Longitudinal Facilitator in the Professional Competencies program in the undergraduate medical program at McMaster University School of Medicine.
He has extensive social work practice experience in Child Welfare, Intimate Partner Violence/Domestic Abuse, Youth Focused Mentoring and Couching Programs. He has worked in the Child Welfare sector for over 14 years at the Catholic Children's Aid Society of Hamilton in the Family/Domestic Violence Community Based Specialty Team. Jabel brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his clinical and educational work. His interest include areas of individual and family resilience in family violence, and other traumatic stressful situations. His practice interest include Narrative and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). He is a Certified Administrator of the Progressive Goal Attainment Program (PGAP).
