Psychiatry Undergrad Meet & Greet
Ever wondered what the fabulous specialty of psychiatry is all about? McMaster medical students have an opportunity to attend our Meet & Greet evening held annually (usually in February). At this speed dating styled event, they can rotate around the room to speak with various Department of Psychiatry faculty from the different psychiatric specialties and find out about the wonderful diversity of psychiatric practice and intellect. For more information on our upcoming event, please contact Cheyenne Reid, Electives Coordinator, Department of Psychiatry.
McMaster DBPN - Psychiatry Meet 'n' Greet Undergrad Event on Feb 22, 2017 Video
We are happy to share that our Bootcamp Summer Elective for Pre-clerkship McMaster medical students has turned into an annual event (usually in August)! This high paced intro to Psychiatry has been developed by our own residents and has received rave reviews. It is multipurpose serving as an intense introduction and overview of Psychiatry (its concepts, illnesses, interventions, and settings), while giving students a birds-eye-view of what a potential career in Psychiatry can look like. We accept 10-12 students for this bootcamp each year. The first week will consist of structured interactive sessions primarily run by our own residents, covering crucial content and skills in Psychiatry. The second week will consist of clinical observership with our dedicated faculty and some site visits (e.g. shelters, COAST) to get a sense of what happens in Psychiatry. For more information on our upcoming event please contact Cheyenne Reid Electives Coordinator, Department of Psychiatry.
Each year, the MD office holds their Horizontal & Research Electives Fair (October) and their MF4 & Clerkship Electives Fair (November) which the Department of Psychiatry regularly attends providing elective information and handouts. Please contact Susheel Gurcha in the MD Electives office for more information on the next event. Hope to see you there!
