Numerous studies have demonstrated the importance of mentorship for professional development in academic medicine (Kashiwagi, Varkey, & Cook, 2013). Psychiatry residents with mentors have reported greater career satisfaction, more networking opportunities, enhanced psychosocial support and improved skills in research compared to those without mentors (Sambunjak, Straus, & Marušic, 2006).
Many individuals may find a mentor naturally. However, a substantial number do not. Our mentoring program was designed to fill that gap and provide mentees with the opportunity to choose a mentor that aligns with their personal interests. The program is available to all members of the department.
If you are interested in participating in the program as a mentee, please review our faculty for potential mentors and email Jennifer Ford.
If you are a faculty member interested in being a mentor in the program, please email Jennifer Ford.
