Maxine Lewis


Dr. Lewis has held a position with St. Joseph’s Hospital and McMaster University since 2004. She completed her undergraduate medical degree at the Welsh National School of Medicine, Cardiff, U.K. in 1989. She completed her training in Psychiatry and obtained her subspecialty certification in Geriatric Psychiatry at Leeds University in 2001, followed by a Master's degree in Clinical Psychiatry from the University of Leeds in 1996. After working as a consultant psychiatrist in Leeds and Birmingham, U.K. Dr. Lewis immigrated to Canada in 2004.

Dr. Lewis is the Clinical Head of the Geriatric Psychiatry Service at St. Joseph's Hospital and as such is responsible for managing the service provided by the geriatric psychiatry inpatient and outreach programs provided by St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton. She works in a clinical capacity with the Niagara Geriatric Mental Health Outreach Program and the Hamilton Geriatric Psychiatry Program. Dr. Lewis is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry with a faculty position at McMaster University, and has extensive experience teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is currently the Geriatric Psychiatry representative on the Department of Psychiatry Postgraduate Education Committee which is responsible for overseeing the training of our psychiatry residents.
