Innovation, Equity, and Partnerships are the core values that will guide and define the academic activities of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences over the next three years in our mission “to improve the lives of individuals, families and communities through the prevention, earlier detection of and intervention with mental health problems and illnesses across the life span”.
Innovation will continue to be central to everything we do. We will strive to think differently, challenge the status quo, and create an environment that supports creativity and new ideas.
Our commitment to equity means a commitment to creating equal opportunities for every member of the community, regardless of who they are or what challenges they face. We seek to remove any and all obstacles that impede an individual’s recovery and overall well-being, be they social, economic, environmental, biological or psychological barriers.
Our work is richer and more productive when we collaborate within the Department as well as with partners from Hospitals, Faculty, University and Community, and other centres that not only share our interests but bring their unique perspectives to the table. It is our hope that these partnerships will lead to an appreciation of the link between mind and body and that they will result in the recognition of problems, effective interventions, and timely referrals.
