McMaster University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences welcomes eligible individuals (i.e., both IMG and CMG) to submit CaRMS applications for consideration of a postgraduate residency position. The following selection criteria are considered in reviewing applicants’ files as well as selecting candidates for interviewing and ranking:
Candidates who are able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge about the practice of psychiatry within a CanMEDS framework will be strongly considered. Strong evidence of professionalism, communication and medical expert knowledge within psychiatry and related disciplines is preferred. Candidates are encouraged to demonstrate an understanding of the unique educational opportunities offered at McMaster University and how this will benefit their training in psychiatry. Experience with research and other scholarly activities is preferred although not required. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete at least one elective in psychiatry prior to CaRMS interviews. If completion of an elective was not possible, an explanation in this regard is required.
Candidates who do not provide the required documentation or who submit their CaRMS application past the CaRMS due date may not be considered for an interview.
