The McMaster Psychiatry Postgraduate Program (Hamilton Campus and Waterloo Regional Campus) is a Royal College Accredited five-year training program, the completion of which leads to eligibility for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada's Specialty Examination in Psychiatry.
Entry to each campus is through separate CaRMS matches. Both programs are highly flexible and responsive programs that encourage and support personal initiative.
Pgy1 (Basic Clinical Training Year)
The first year is constructed as a Basic Clinical Training Year with rotations in:
- 2 Selectives (residents may choose from: Psychiatry, Research, Geriatrics, Palliative, Ob/GYNE, Surgery, General Internal Medicine, Neurology, Neuroradiology, Developmental Pediatrics, Adolescent Medicine, or Family Medicine)
- 1 Elective of the residents choice in any discipline. This may be done outside of McMaster Foundations of Psychiatry**
**Foundations of Psychiatry is a unique block designed here at McMaster, to provide our residents with the psychiatric skills needed to prepare them for PGY2 as well as increase their familiarity with local resources and the mental health System. Additionally, the block includes team-building activities and networking opportunities allowing residents to get to know each other and department faculty. This block has been exceptionally well received and highly evaluated.
